french oak material story

Sourced from lush, sustainable forests in northern France, the French Oak collection celebrates warmth, time and patina – unique in character and timeless in tone.

Prized for its high tannin content and unique ability to oxidize from within, the French Oak palette offers extraordinary richness and variances in depth, dependent on tannin levels in the board and their proximity to the wood’s surface when fumed.

Featuring a tighter grain of hardwood often used to make wine barrels, the rich nature of French Oak is not the result of stain applications, but rather a specialized thermal pressure treatment and pH-modified water bath that triggers a natural reaction between iron and wood tannins resulting in a luscious, earthy color resistant to fading, even when exposed to light over time.

The French Oak Hardwood Collection is hand finished for specific levels of age, patina, edge or distress.

Aged

Recalling a traditional patina more often achieved after years of use, the Aged Finish is naturally distressed and features chipped edges. May be utilized in both straight planks and patterns, such as Chevron, Herringbone and Versailles.

Brushed

A refined, modern finish that celebrates the rich color of French Oak. Available in Straight planks as well as patterns such as Chevron, Herringbone and Versailles.

Deep Wire Brushed

Rounded edges and a heavily brushed finish offer the look of rustic, reclaimed flooring.

Available in straight planks as well as Chevron and Herringbone patterns.
