Prized for its invaluable history and artistic value, Scagliola is a centuries-old technique of creating ornamental stonework that beautifully replicates exquisite marble and limestone surfaces. Celebrated famously in Baroque architecture of the 17th century, Scagliola continued to flourish in Europe and America through the 1900’s, often seen in stunning European estates and cathedrals.
Francois & Company’s contemporary artisans offer a wide portfolio of architectural Scagliola creations and finishes for the home, from the classically subtle to the most embellished and ornate.
Incorporating the precise techniques and materials intrinsic to the original masters, François & Co. artisans are able to hand lay multiple layers of pigment, created by a proprietary mixture of limestone dust and marble chips, followed by honing and hand polishing – a process repeated until pinholes are filled and the surface flawlessly resembles a naturally veined marble, almost indistinguishable from the original.
