Early 19th century Louis XVI mantel. This piece, originally carved in grey marble, was rescued from a dilapidated Paris townhouse. The reproduction has been impeccably executed with its “tablette en ressaut” (bas relief panel) featuring a carved oval sunflower in its center. The fluted and reeded halfmoon legs are surmounted by square carved paterae.
By extracting the essence of the Scagliola technique, Thierry François created an original process by which all forms of hand-crafted limestone — including marbles — have the look of natural, hand-cut stone. This extraordinary stone inlay and “cross batch” technique is one-of-a-kind.
