Scagliola - Stone Mante by François & Co.

Francois & Co. Scagliola

Scagliola, pronounced “sca-lee-oh-lah,” is a centuries-old technique for creating ornamental stonework that mimics fine marble and limestone. It remains highly prized for its historic value and exquisite artistry. The technique came into fashion in Italian Baroque buildings of the 17th century and continued to flourish in Europe and America through the 20th century.

Our Signature STONE Collection

Our French limestone products begin their journey as massive 20,000-pound blocks, quarried from a hillside. The block is then broken up into slabs, cut into tiles, or cut to size to build our fireplace mantels. Lightly brushed to enhance natural texture and luster, our French limestone has variations in hue and texture. The tiny embedded fossilized creatures that lived millions of years ago reflect the stone’s origin and composition. These unique characteristics are what make French limestone so highly prized and beautiful. FRANCOIS & CO. French limestone products include both newly-quarried limestone flooring as well as coveted antique flooring such as our Dalle de Bourgogne.

In addition, we also offer custom, hand-cut mosaics, inspired by those found in ancient Greek and Roman palaces.

Our historical expertise, creative craftsmanship and laser-sharp eye for detail is reflected in a variety of FRANCOIS & CO. architectural products and applications. These include fireplace mantels, range hoods, fountains, archways, columns, sills, moldings and intricate staircases. We invite you to select from our gallery of FRANCOIS &CO. signature architectural products, or we can collaborate with you to bring to life your own original concept.

We invite you to explore the wide variety of FRANCOIS & CO. architectural applications. With a portfolio ranging from simple archways, columns and wall treatments, to intricate staircases and custom interiors, the creative options are endless. FRANCOIS & CO. can provide design consultation, products, services, and material platforms to fit all types of aesthetics and applications.

By extracting the essence of the Scagliola technique, Thierry François created an original process by which all forms of hand-crafted limestone — including marbles — have the look of natural hand-cut stone. This extraordinary stone inlay and “cross batch” technique is one-of-a-kind.

From the Palace of VERSAILLES, to a humble 18th Century

French cottage, there is something compelling about a fine, antique wood floor. In our travels throughout Europe over the years, we have been fortunate to encounter many examples of exceptional architectural beauty. The more we studied these beautiful, French oak floors, the more our appreciation grew for them.

Unlike other surfaces, a wood floor is a warm, living thing, each one as unique as the tree it came from. It has a character all it’s own — expressed in the fingerprint of the grain, its particular luster, its texture, its age and patina… in its very imperfections. Through dedication and painstaking attention to detail, our team of artisans and stylists has created a collection that truly does justice to the original surfaces that so captivated us.

We are proud to introduce these superb wooden surfaces that perfectly represent the FRANCOIS & CO. lifestyle.

Our Classic Collection comprises a selection of solid hardwood floors, hand-finished in France by expert craftsmen. The collection is available in a variety of elegant, traditional patterns, including the regal Parquet de Versailles and the timeless Chevron. It is offered in a range of plank woods, in different widths, colors and textures. All of the woods in the Classic Collection are Oil Finished and PEFC certified. The Classic Collection provides a luxurious canvas to set off any room.

The Engineered Collection is made up of a selection of premium, engineered hardwood floors, available in a variety of patterns, textures and colors. These floors are constructed of a thick, oak-top layer, suitable for use with radiant and underfloor heating and cooling systems. A finish is then applied, with a choice of textures ranging from silky smooth and finely brushed, to slightly distressed, to highly distressed and rustic. Finally, all of our Engineered floors are treated with our specially developed oil for easy maintenance and to preserve the authentic finish.

UNVEILING De Corbusier

FRANÇOIS & CO. is proud to introduce De Corbusier Metal. Sophistication and timeless style are the hallmark of this signature collection of countertops that lovingly interpret the classic pewter of 1930s Parisian bistros.

The De Corbusier metals — pewter, brass, zinc, and copper — are melted and then cast into forms. Each of these metals offers an authentic and durable surface with exquisite texture and mature patina. The collection encompasses artfully crafted countertops to impressive range hoods.

In addition, FRANÇOIS & CO. offers the Cold Cast Metal Collection which provides unlimited design options. Each Cold Cast piece is handmade using a FRANÇOIS & CO. proprietary technique in which metal is not melted but worked from its powder form to construct an alloy. Cold Cast is an excellent alternative for unique range hoods and fireplace mantels, but is not suited for countertop applications.
